Taking Off the Baby Weight & Getting Back into Shape

As the saying goes it takes 9 months to put on the baby weight so it should take you 9 months to take off the weight. Or in my case, 10 or 11 months. I love being pregnant. The pregnant belly, the baby kicks, and the end result of getting a baby. The part I hate: losing the weight. I’m not very good at the whole weight loss thing in the first place, put an extra 35 pounds on me and I’m even more frustrated.

With each of my pregnancies, I gained 35 pounds and I can say that with my first I didn’t really try to get the weight off. The pregnancy went smoothly and I knew that I was going to try and get pregnant immediately, so I wasn’t in any hurry to really lose the weight that I knew was going to come back in the next pregnancy.

My second pregnancy was a totally different story. I had bad hip problems and my back was achy all the time. It was just so much harder on me than my first that I knew that after I had my son it was important for me to get the weight off this time. Not just because I wanted to lose the baby weight and begin to fit into my pants but for the sake of achy body.

We plan on getting pregnant again shortly after I am done nursing my son and I don’t want the joint pain that I had the last time to take a toll on my body. So, even though I didn’t lose the weight in 9 months like the saying goes, I’m determined to get down to my pre-pregnancy weight and not just from my second kid, but from my first! At this point, my son is 10 months old and I’m just one pound away from the weight I was when I got pregnant with him so that means I only have 6 more pounds to go.

I feel like the only problem about get down to my pre-pre-pregnancy weight is I got pregnant with my son directly after I stopped breastfeeding my daughter. If that is the case this time around, then I better get a move on dropping those last 6 pounds. Tick Tick Tick, the clock says I have about 7.5 weeks till I wean my son. It’s been a great year of nursing but I’m ready to have my body back to myself (for the time being).

The body that I had pre-kids is a memory that is so distant because all I have been doing the past 3.5 years is growing babies and nursing babies, so who knows what my actual body is supposed to look like anymore.

People think I’m crazy to want to have four kids in the first place but to crank them out one right after another is sheer madness. I think of it as a blessing to my body though. Yes, it will take an immediate toll on my body but after I’m done I can work on getting my body back into the shape that I need to be in order to chase after my crew. I don’t want to be the mom who just sits on the sidelines and watches their kids play around, I want to be able to join in on the fun.
